Why Cultivation And Sale of Marijuana Must Be Legalized;
But That Definitely Was Not The Intended Message!
HELP POLICE STOP DRUGS
From The Toronto Star
(Marijuananews note: Many people think that simply decriminalizing personal possession of
marijuana is an adequate step. For whatever reasons, they seem afraid to go further and
call for the legalization of both cultivation and sale. This article shows why these steps
are necessary.Marijuana has to come from somewhere. If cultivation and sales are not
legalized, the problems of the black market will remain. Indeed, they might even grow
worse.

"Here, if you want
cannabis you go to a coffee shop.
In other countries if you want it you have to go to a man who might try to sell you heroin
or cocaine as well."
The abuses of the police will also continue. What this article demonstrates is that the
police will continue to misplace their priorities and go after the easy targets, all in
the name of stopping "drugs."
I suppose it would be difficult for The Star to refuse to run this sort of
prohibitionist propaganda. They have actually run some very good articles.)

Durham police drug enforcement officers are asking you to join the war on drugs.
During the winter, marijuana is grown indoors in hydroponic labs.
(Marijuananews note: Notice the use of the term "lab" as in meth lab, as
opposed to garden, as in tomatoes. Also, the Canadian narcs love to talk about
"hydroponics" even though most of the indoor growing is usually in soil.)

A hydroponic lab could be anything from a few plants grown under bright lights to a
room specially converted to grow large quantities of the drug.
A single marijuana plant can yield a quarter pound of drug at maturity that has a
street value of approximately $2,500.

(Marijuananews note: The Canadian dollar is around 66 DEAland
cents, so this around $6,500 DEAland per pound. I would like for my Canadian readers to
advise me on this, if you can come out of your labs for a moment.)
In 1997, Durham Regions police drug enforcement unit seized
$3.5 million in narcotics and laid more than 590 drug related charges against 270 people.
(Marijuananews note: How many of these were for marijuana??)
If you are aware of anyone who is dealing in narcotics, or
know the location of a hydroponic lab, call Durham Region Crime Stoppers.
(Marijuananews note: Notice the switch, "dealing in narcotics,
or know the location of a hydroponic lab."
