Marijuana
Rally In Burlington - (BURLINGTON) -- Hundreds of supporters for the legalization of
marijuana, whether for medicinal use, recreational use, or for hemp-based product
manufacture, gathered in Burlingtons City Hall Park this past weekend. The rally was intended in part to send a message to Vermont legislators
about a resolution now before the Health and Welfare Commission that would legalize
medicinal use of marijuana. Support for the bill seems to be growing in the Vermont House.
The proposal has strong backing from the states medical community.
"Drugging" Law Challenged - (STATEWIDE) -- A Vermont
law that allows mentally ill patients to be medicated against their will is being
challenged in U-S District Court. A class action suit, filed on behalf of a
Burlington woman who suffers from paranoid schizophrenia, claims the Vermont law is a
violation of the Americans With Disabilities Act and the Civil Rights Act of 1871. The
challenged Vermont law allows a court to review, and override, a patients wishes not
to be medicated, if the judge decides the medication is in the patients best
interests.
