State of Rhode Island Contracts with Associated Pathologists Laboratories
LAS VEGAS, April 22 /PRNewswire/ --
Associated Pathologists Laboratories (APL), has been awarded a contract by Rhode Island
Department of Corrections to provide pre-employment drug testing services. Rhode Island will screen training academy applicants for drugs of abuse
using APLs proprietary hair testing method (patents pending). Under this program, a
small sample of the job applicants hair will be sent to APLs central
laboratory in Las Vegas for testing. Applicants will be tested for past use of cocaine,
methamphetamines, opiates, PCP and marijuana.
Hair testing for drugs of abuse can detect drug use for the previous 90 days.
Traditional urine drug testing can only detect drug use in the past 72 hours; hair testing
can detect up to twice as many drug users as urine testing.
(Ed. note: This is a surprising misstatement. Urine testing can detect hard drugs for
up to 72 hours, but marijuana for several weeks after use.)
Associated Pathologists Laboratories (http://www.apllabs.com)
is a privately held corporation headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada. Founded
in 1966, APL has a laboratory staff of over 1200 employees, supervised by over 25
MDs and Ph.Ds. APL is licensed and accredited by numerous organizations
including the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the Substance Abuse and Mental
Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
