(Ed. note: While I was in Amsterdam I did my web
site updates from The Cannabis College. It is now being run by my old friend Annie Renkin,
who is well-known to those who have attended the Cannabis Cup. It is sponsored by the very
nice people across the canal at the Flying Dutchman, who sell hemp products, seeds, etc.)

The Cannabis College is a non-profit foundation dedicated to ending the global
"war" against the Cannabis plant through public education. Our most important
tool is correct information and our mission is to spread it as widely as possible.
The hemp plant, botanically known as Cannabis sativa, served us well for thousands of
years. Since ancient times various parts of the Cannabis plant have provided food,
clothing, paper, fuel, building materials and more to humanity. Cannabis was the most
widely prescribed folk medicine in Europe and the Americas prior to the age of synthetic
pharmaceuticals and still figures in the religious practices of some cultures.
Starting around 1910 these traditional uses came under political pressure, initiated by
the British, Egyptian and South African governments. But the real threat began in the
1930s when the uses of hemp came into conflict with the new cheaper and more widely
available synthetic fibers. During this period industrial hemp was lumped together with
its psychoactive cousin, marijuana, in the USA and both were often vilified in the media
of the day.
Cannabis was also added to the list of Schedule 1 compoundsdangerous drugs with
no known medical benefits. From that time, the prohibition against all uses of the
Cannabis plant has increased throughout the world due to a relentless campaign spearheaded
by the US government and the United Nations. Yet, the truth is, in all history there is no
human death attributable to an overdose of Cannabis. Modern medicine has recently started
to reconsider the benefits of medical cannabis and the hemp plant began to reclaim the
fields.
We can only conclude that greatest danger of Cannabis use is the potential for criminal
prosecution and imprisonment. Working together to spread the truth we can stop the costly
and unfair persecution of marijuana users and unlock the Cannabis plants potential
for the worlds benefit.
To support our goals, the Foundation Cannabis College has opened a public information
center in the center of Amsterdam. The "Cannabis College" fills two floors of a
registered 17th Century monument. Here we present an ongoing display of the
best quality hemp-products, exhibits of "Cannabis art", and continually updated
press-clippings regarding the state of Cannabis around the world. There are facilities for
press conferences and lectures regarding Cannabis and soon we will begin to teach courses.
The showpiece of the College is our rock garden where the Cannabis plant grows in her
natural surroundings. We invite you to visit and we welcome and need your support.
