Britain Rules Out Legalized
Marijuana
LONDONThe British government ruled out legalizing marijuana
on doctors prescriptions to patients suffering from debilitating conditions, saying
there was no scientific evidence that the drug worked. Health Minister George
Howarth moved quickly to reject proposals by a committee of the House of Lords, the upper
chamber of parliament, that cannabis should be authorized for medical use even before
trials can prove that it has clear benefits. The government has authorized a closely
controlled clinical trial of cannabis, but the results could take
years to complete.

(Marijuananews note: As I like to say, we couldnt make this
up. The District has just had an election on medical marijuana, which the Congress thought
important enough to block. But when a very prestigious committee does a report supportive
of the peoples views on the subject, this is how the Post tells it readers. Just
barely.
At the end of this feature, the Post puts its featured
"quote of the day." How long will it be before they feature a similar quote
about the war on marijuana?)
QUOTE OF THE DAY
