FREE WILL FOSTER
Medical Marijuana Rally Oklahoma State Capitol * Monday, April 20, 1998, 4pm
A rally and demonstration will be held at the Oklahoma State Capitol on Monday, April
20, 1998, 4pm to bring pressure on the state legislature to consider the impact current
marijuana laws have on medical patients who can get satisfactory relief only by using a
forbidden medicine. It is hoped that the new Truth in Sentencing law will be amended to
allow a jury to hear a defense at trial based on medical necessity.
Speakers:
Adam J. Smith (ajsmith@intr.net) assistant
director of the Drug Reform Coordination Network in Washington.
Megan Foster (freedom@busprod.com) wife of
Will Foster, Tulsa, Ok.
Michael Pearson (oknorml@swbell.net), director
Oklahoma NORML
Mike Camfield, public relations director, ACLU
A film crew from the Canadian Broadcasting Company will document
the event.
Will Foster, Tulsa, is currently serving a 93 year sentence for cultivation at a
private prison in Mansville, Tx. He suffers from severe chronic fheumatoid arthritis. An
interview with Will Foster will be aired on FrontLine on PBS April 28th.
The most recent publication documenting marijuanas antiinflamatory efficacy is in
Arthitis & Rheumatism, Vol. 41, No. 1, Jan 98. The oldest documentation is from the
Pen-tsao Ching written by the Chinese emperor Shen-nung (c. 2000 BC).
(Ed. note: If Shen-nung were alive today, he would now be serving
his 3,898th year in an Oklahoma prison.)
