(Marijuananews note: If you think about this very long, you may suffer
brain damage, but this demonstrates that reefer madness is an international ideology. This
is remarkably similar to an incident in the UK in which the daughter of a retired
policeman died after taking ecstasy, ironically of a water overdose. The father became an
even more rabid supporter of marijuana prohibition. -- RC)

Sydney father calls for boycott of the Body Shop
Tony Wood, the father of Sydney schoolgirl Anna Wood, who died after taking a single
ecstasy tablet, calls for a boycott of The Body Shop as it promotes marijuana use by
selling products manufactured with hemp and displaying posters of a large cannabis leaf in
its hop (sic) windows
to promote the products.
In a letter of protest to The Body Shop, Mr. Wood wrote, "Unfortunately The
Body Shop is profiteering from the seduction of our youth by a fibre
that is clearly equated to marijuana"
"You are playing into the
marijuana culture and into the international movement to legalise marijuana."
Mr. Wood said he would urge boycotts of the company through groups such as the
Australian Parnet Movement, Australian Cities Against Drugs and the Australian Family
Association.
HNN-comment: Similar concerns about The Body Shop
marijuana-related promotion have been raised elsewhere. However, it should come as no
surprise that The Body Shop is marketing its 'Hemp Series'. Founder Anita Roddick is in
favour of legalisation of cannabis. She signed the British newspaper The Independent's
campaign for legalisation of cannabis and the infamous New York Times add in June 1998
claiming that actions against drugs cause more problems than the drugs themselves. It's
worthwhile considering a boycott of The Body Shop.
