GRANTED BAIL
But crusader won't give up drugs
Marijuana crusader Grant Kreiger was released on bail yesterday despite his
refusal to promise to stay off the weed.
Justice Patrick Sullivan rejected submissions by Crown prosecutor
Scott Couper that Kreiger should remain locked up because he won't eschew his miracle
drug.
"The court should exercise some caution ... given his obvious commitment to
overturn the law," Couper told Sullivan.
But the judge said it's not illegal to try and change
legislation.
"He can promise to overturn the laws all he wants,
that's not a crime," said Sullivan.
Defence lawyer Adriano Iovinelli said his client, who suffers from multiple sclerosis,
has agreed not to grow or distribute marijuana until he can take his cause before a jury.
But Iovinelli said his client will still need to have a daily fix
of weed to relieve the pain of his illness.
(Marijuananews note: I know just how he feels! I need my daily
fix of really crappy biased pseudo-journalism, or my metabolism drops. The Calgary papers
are usually good for a rush.)
Kreiger, 45, faces five-drug related charges.
