Full text of letter dated October 21, 1999:
Dear Judge Breyer:
We are writing to you as representatives of 30,000 registered
nurses and members of the medical community in support of the Oakland Cannabis
Buyers Cooperatives efforts to alleviate the unnecessary suffering and
needless pain of patients who meet the medical necessity standard to receive medical
cannabis.
The recent decision to allow distribution of cannabis to patients who fit the medical
necessity standard, as outlined by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, is appropriate.
Many, many studies support the use of medical cannabis to control the side effects of
chemotherapy as well as for specific illnesses such as glaucoma. To
deny a patients use of any drug that allows them relief from the ravages of illness
would be immoral.
A decision by your court to immediately modify your injunction rather than wait
for the conclusion of any reconsiderations or appeals would be in the best interest
of patients and help avert much needless death, suffering, and pain;
promote delivery of effective health care by nurses, and help assure safety for
both nurses and patients.

good faith, with humanity, and with the best interest of the medical community at heart in
your decision.
