(Marijuananews note: My daily search for
marijuana stories on Yahoo! sent me to the Alabama page of the States News Service, the
prohibitionist propaganda organization that provides Yahoo! readers with their daily dose
of reefer madness. The following three stories were together just as you see them. The
third has nothing to do with marijuana, but the page has all kinds of news from Alabama.
It just happened to be there. You might call it background material with a little local
color. Recently, States News Service has brought us other little tidbits.)

Five Arrested In Drug Sweep - (DECATUR) -- One-hundred-63-pounds
of marijuana is a lot of pot by any standard. (Marijuananews
note: This was the headline link that got my attention.)
Thats how much has been recovered so far in a police sweep still going on in
Morgan County. Five people were arrested, including a school cafeteria worker. Every law enforcement agency in the region got in on the act in one of
the biggest drug busts in recent history.
(Marijuananews note: Ah, the thrill of it all!
Last year over 100,000 pounds of marijuana were seized in McAllen, Texas. But we Texans
have very high standards.)
County Reports Lower Pot Use - (GADSDEN) -- Marijuana use in DeKalb County is leveling
off... but local narcotics officers are NOT rejoicing. Drug users in the county are
apparently switching to "harder" drugs... such as crack cocaine and
methamphetamines, which will provide more enforcement headaches for local officials.

(Marijuananews note: This was the very next story. We
couldnt make this up.)
Teacher Found Innocent - (ATHENS) -- A former high school teacher arrested in a sting
operation aimed at homosexuals has been vindicated by a Limestone County Circuit Court
jury. John Wilhoite has been found innocent of harassment charges. Wilhoite claims he was
arrested just because he happened to be walking through a local park Athens police were
targeting. Even though charges against him have been dropped, the
17-year veteran teacher says he doesnt want to have anything more to do with north
Alabama. Wilhoite... who says his name is so badly smeared he cannot possibly remain in
the school system... plans to leave the area.
