IS THE DRUG WAR FOREVER?
See: Update On Voluntary Committee
of Lawyers' Boston Forum --Thursday, January 29 -- 6PM
The drug war at 25: looking back, looking ahead
With the declaration of war against drugs twenty-five years ago, the United States
embarked upon a pursuit noble in motive and far-reaching in consequence. As with alcohol
prohibition, attempts at enforcement have clogged the courts, filled the prisons,
corrupted officials at home and abroad, bred disrespect for the law in important
communities of our fellow citizens, imperiled the liberties of us all, bankrupted the
taxpayers and brought the nation no closer to abstinence.
What more will it take to win the war? How will we recognize victory?
Is there light at the end of the tunnel? What are our options?
